Diego and I were roommates and very good friends at GW. He was a year behind me, but we worked & played hard with eyes toward medicine. He went south to Tulane and I, north to Rochester. He and I kept in touch on & off through medical school and when I started as faculty at UNC and Duke, but haven't talked in many years. I recently tried to contact him to let him know that I have left the academic world to practice bush-medicine, treating the underserved in the rural villages of southeast Alaska. I know how important serving the underserved was to him. I am just devastated to learn of his passing. I'm so sorry I didn't try to contact him sooner. Even though it's been years since we spoke, I will miss him and would like to extend all of my best wishes to him family. Brian Benjamin, MD. Douglas, Alaska
